Sol y Luna, nestled in Peru’s Sacred Valley, is more than a luxury Relais & Châteaux property—it plays a central role in the local community.
Rooted in Relais & Châteaux’s 12 commitments to sustainability, Sol y Luna integrates the power of hospitality with the transformative mission of the Sol y Luna Foundation.
A Partnership with UNESCO
Aware that intentions must be converted into tangible, clear, and measurable actions, a partnership has been established between UNESCO and the Relais & Châteaux Association.
As a selected member of the Sustainability Commission for Relais & Chateaux, Sol y Luna founder and owner, Petit Miribel, announced the 12 commitments at the Relais & Chateaux Congress in Paris.

The partnership is part of UNESCO’s worldwide efforts in the realms of education, science, and culture and the Relais & Chateaux’s search for new, more effective coalitions between international bodies and civil society.
As such, 12 commitments have been designed to pursue three major missions:
1/ PRESERVE THE WORLD’S HOSPITALITY & CULINARY TRADITIONS
2/ CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROTECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF BIODIVERSITY
3/ TAKE DAILY ACTION FOR A MORE HUMANE WORLD
Empowering the Local Community
Founded in 1998, the Sol y Luna Foundation predates the Sol y Luna Hotel. Profits from hotel bookings and guest donations support the Foundation’s educational programmes, thus aligning with UNESCO’s vision of reducing inequalities and fostering inclusive education.
The Sol y Luna Foundation provides children with access to schooling, healthcare, and a safe environment in which to grow.

Preserving Cultural Heritage
Through its design and cuisine, Sol y Luna embodies Andean traditions.
From showcasing the region’s rich craft heritage to celebrating local ingredients in its dishes, the property embodies Relais & Châteaux’s commitment to preserving cultural diversity.
Consciously designed to integrate unobtrusively into its surroundings, Sol y Luna is formed of multiple casitas which all pay homage to the view.
Sustainability in Action
Sol y Luna is dedicated to environmental stewardship, from minimizing waste to supporting local farmers who practice sustainable agriculture.
By collaborating with producers and reducing its ecological footprint, the property spearheads Relais & Châteaux’s pledge to achieve ambitious environmental goals by 2040.
Through its dual focus on luxury and social impact, Sol y Luna demonstrates how hospitality can drive meaningful change.
When you stay here, you’re not just immersing yourself in breathtaking landscapes and exceptional service—you’re helping to build a brighter future for the Sacred Valley.
The name Footprint originally came from our newsletter and we decided to use it for the Sol y Luna blog as well. Footprint fits well with the concept of Sol y Luna: our hotel was founded to support the local community. Leave footprints of kindness wherever you go.
My name is Marie Hélene Miribel, but everybody calls me simply Petit. Following my heart, I left a successful corporate life for the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to live my dream of improving the future for some of the world’s poorest children. In my husband Franz, I met the perfect match. I have tons of ideas for how to educate these children, and Franz possesses the gifts to build and realize these audacious dreams.
