Sol y Luna in Ranch & Coast

“In the Sacred Valley, the lovely Sol y Luna in Urubamba is still the best place to stay.”

So writes Travel Editor Elizabeth Hansen of Ranch & Coast, San Diego’s ultimate lifestyle magazine that caters to one of the USA’s most affluent regions in a sunny corner of Southern California.

Elizabeth first visited Peru many years ago, and decided that now was as good a time as any for a return trip.

The best Peru guru

To plan her visit, she turned to Nina Fogelman at Ancient Summit, “the best Peru Guru” to advise her about which hotels in the area had retained their high standards.

“Because nothing stays the same, I rely on experienced travel planners who specialise in one area and are up to speed on changes that impact visitors.”

And so it was that Elizabeth found herself visiting Sol y Luna, a hotel that for 25 years has led the charge in providing luxury accommodation, experiences and food with a firm sense of place in its Andean surroundings.

Hansen was excited to revisit Peru, after so many years. “I have a feeling that Peru, like love, will be even lovelier the second time around” she wrote in anticipation of her trip.

Sol y Luna named the very best

Ranch & Coast magazine was effusive in its praise for Sol y Luna, naming it the best place to stay in the Sacred Valley.

“I’m particularly fond of this hotel because the owner Petit Miribel is very engaged with the community,” says Hansen.

“[Petit] uses income from the hotel to fund a boarding school on the property for underprivileged children” she continues, referring to the Sol y Luna Foundation which provides a loving home, school and centre for special needs for underprivileged children from nearby villages and towns in the Sacred Valley.

“I’m looking forward to revisiting Peru and exploring areas that will be new to me” finished Elizabeth, already looking forward to her next trip.

Footprint

The name Footprint originally came from our newsletter and we decided to use it for the Sol y Luna blog as well. Footprint fits well with the concept of Sol y Luna: our hotel was founded to support the local community. Leave footprints of kindness wherever you go.
