An upgrade for our Superior Casitas
Breathing new life into our superior casitas
The Sol y Luna Hotel, situated in the heart of Peru’s majestic Sacred Valley, is well known for offering its guests a perfect blend of luxury and authenticity.
The hotel’s unique collection of 43 casitas – individual circular houses built from local stone, terracotta and adobe brick – have been inspired by traditional Andean design. With private terraces and spectacular vistas in every direction, the casitas provide privacy and complete immersion in the natural environment of the Sacred Valley.
Guests emerging from their casitas cannot fail to be moved by the mystical splendour of the Andean mountains.
Sol y Luna is proud to unveil the full renovation of 28 of its original superior casitas. Sympathetically and artistically restored, the casitas provide a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
Small houses, deep roots
When Sol y Luna founder Petit Miribel first established the hotel, she knew she wanted to go beyond providing guests with a luxurious stay. She also felt strongly that visitors should experience a deep connection to the Sacred Valley.
The design of the hotel reflects this philosophy. Instead of characterless identikit bedrooms and sprawling hotel corridors, guests enjoy individual casitas dotted around 25 acres of lush, flower-filled gardens. The birdlife is particularly special, and the early morning is often the best moment to peek out to catch a glimpse of some of the rarer avian visitors.
“Opening your door to see the Andes – it reminds you where you are,” says Petit.
Funnily enough, it has never been Petit’s intention to make people feel ‘at home.’ She wants guests to know that they have travelled far to arrive somewhere truly unique: the Sacred Valley, so revered by the Incas.
As Andean as an alpaca, and as luxurious as its wool
Built 25 years ago as the cornerstone of the Sol y Luna experience, these superior casitas have always stood as a testament to the hotel’s ancient roots and sense of place.
Now, with new en-suite bathrooms and refreshed décor, they deliver a perfect juxtaposition of historical charm and contemporary comfort. The sleek, modern bathrooms, complete with polished finishes and luxurious amenities, provide a truly serene retreat.
Within the casitas, the design stays true to the Andean spirit, while comfortable, contemporary furniture elevates the interior to provide a delightfully comfortable experience to our guests.
The astute way in which the casitas have been upgraded reflects Sol y Luna’s longstanding commitment to the Sacred Valley and its local communities.
The locally crafted alpaca rugs, for instance, are woven by artisans whose skills have been passed down through generations. This ensures that the hotel retains a meaningful connection to the region and passionately supports sustainable tourism practices.
The art of visiting
The hotel is adorned throughout with vibrant local art and textiles, all of which provide an insight into the rich culture and history of the region.
This, however, is only the first step. This year, in 2025, Sol y Luna is to launch its long-awaited Artist Immersion programme.
The initiative will invite a variety of Peruvian and international artists to draw inspiration from the Sacred Valley’s breath-taking landscapes and lively local culture.
Petit’s ambition is that the enterprise will evolve into artist residencies, where works produced will be exhibited to raise funds for the Sol y Luna Foundation, a charity funded by the hotel that provides a home, school and special needs centre for underprivileged and disadvantaged children in the Sacred Valley.
Experience the Sacred Valley
Sol y Luna is positioned in the heart of the Sacred Valley. Stunning gardens and winding stone paths connect five star accommodation, a superb pool, hot tub and spa and fantastic facilities, whilst guests can enjoy exemplary cuisine and memorable excursions.
